Projects
Science and Technology
It supports the development of bioproducts, enhances the value of standing forests for local populations, as well as the structural improvement of connectivity, mobility and renewable energy.
InovAmazônia
PARTNER:
start:
Start: August 2022
End: August 2025
Aimed at financing the development of plant-based solutions and ingredients for the food industry using native species from the Amazon biome.
Seven studies were selected to investigate the potential for using native species from the Amazon. Priority is given to studies that seek innovative technological processes, involve local communities and use waste from existing production chains.
Chains:
-
Açaí
-
Babassu
-
Cocoa
-
Brazil Nuts
-
Cupuaçu
-
Guarana
-
Tacumã
Location:
The entire Amazon biome.
SDG:
Amazon Proteins
PARTNER:
start:
2nd semester of 2022
The project is aimed at developing alternatives for extracting vegetable proteins from Brazil nut and cupuaçu by-products for applications in the food industry.
The JBS Fund for the Amazon supports the technical and economic feasibility study with proof of concept for protein extraction technology.
Location:
Rondônia, district of Nova California, Porto Velho
SDG:
Bioplastic from the Amazon - Green Polypropylene
partner:
start:
Start: September 2022
End: March 2024
The proposal is to develop a sustainable material (biocomposite) to partially and/or completely replace polypropylene (PP), using Amazonian fibers from the Brazil nut hedgehog.
Location:
Rondônia, Nova California district, Porto Velho
Goals:
Promoting the Circular Economy in bioeconomy chains
Income generation for extractive communities;
Benefiting 40 families directly and 400 indirectly;
Support for the conservation of 2,400 hectares of forests in areas of deforestation pressure;
Promotion of the Manaus Free Trade Zone as a hub for innovation in the bioeconomy;
Reduction of 336 tCO2eq in carbon emissions.
SDG:
Geoflora - Forest Automation and Spatialization of Carbon Stocks in Forest Ecosystems in the Amazon
partner:
start:
Start: August 2022
End: August 2025
In 2022, Embrapa Acre began activities involving studies to measure and model carbon stocks and emissions in different forest environments in the Amazon.
The objective is to generate a database of three-dimensional point cloud images obtained by RGB (red, blue and green) cameras and laser sensors (LiDAR) embedded in drones.
Impacted Area: 30 thousand hectares mapped by the project
Location:
Acre, Rondônia, Roraima, Amapá, Pará and Amazonas
Goals:
-
Development of a database of cataloged images for forest species of economic interest
-
Adjustment of algorithms for forest inventories of timber and non-timber species in the Amazon;
-
Production of dynamics estimation models, biomass stocks and high-resolution biomass maps for areas of strategic interest to support public policies for sustainable use (forest management) and payment for environmental services (carbon stocks);
-
Production of models of carbon, biomass and soil emission factors in forest management environments;
-
Provision of cutting-edge, high-precision, low-cost technology (patent).
SDG:
New Technologies for Riverine Vessels
PARTNER:
The project aims to develop research aimed at the electrification of small vessels in the Amazon, encourage new markets and provide accessibility, logistics and quality of life for people in a clean and sustainable way.
Location:
All legal Amazonia.
